Day 1. Pawling, NY to Kent, CT
18.1 miles.
I left the apartment at 6:10a, took the metro north train from Grand Central and arrived in Pawling, NY at 9:20a.
My goal for day 1 was to hike 10 miles to the 10 mile shelter, but I made that goal by 1p and decided to make it a lunch spot. I continued on and made camp at Mt. Algo Shelter. On my way, I saw my first rattlesnake. I was walking along listening to an audio book, in my own little world, when I seriously almost stepped right on it. I think it was sleeping or playing dead because the little guy didn’t show any sign of life or seem to care about me at all. I also saw a blue tailed lizard, a hawk (so close I thought I felt the wind from it’s beating wings) and a MILLION chipmunks. I would’ve believed chipmunks were near extinction before this hike. Oh, I also saw a few dear when I scared them coming around a turn and they took off running (or was it dancing?) through the woods, not running away from me but beside and around me. I’ve met a couple of nice hiker people but there are definitely some weirdos out here. I made camp around 6p – ate my food, took a bath, edited this video and went to bed.
Day 2. Kent, CT to West Cornwall, CT
17.7 miles
I had planned to recap this day but I was so tired that I decided to do it in the morning. However, I woke up in the middle of the night feeling very sick and vomiting. I put all of my energy into making it to the next town and getting help.
Day 3. West Cornwall, CT to Falls Village, CT
8 miles
I hiked the last 8 miles to Falls Village, puking and dry heaving the entire way. I got help and got home.
